Two in custody after drive-up ATM break-in

Broken CHASE ATM machine

Two suspects are in custody after stealing a commercial truck and burglarizing a drive-up ATM.

At about 3:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, deputies were dispatched to the 26000 block of Crown Valley Parkway in Mission Viejo after a caller reported two suspects breaking in to a drive-up ATM. The caller also told deputies the truck had a logo on the side.

Deputies contacted the owner of the company and learned the truck had been stolen out of San Clemente and that it was equipped with a tracking device.

They located the truck in Mission Viejo and attempted to pull the truck over, but the driver instead led deputies on a 20-minute pursuit. During the pursuit, the passenger fled the vehicle and was detained by deputies.

The driver continued the pursuit and, shortly after, crashed on the northbound 133 Toll Road at Irvine Boulevard.  The driver fled on foot up an embankment toward a nearby neighborhood.

Approximately three hours later, Irvine Police Department officers observed a man in a residential area matching the suspect description. They detained him until deputies arrived. He was later identified as the suspect who fled from the vehicle.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession or receiving of stolen property and evading police.
