SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2026): On Monday, August 17, 2026, shortly after 12:30 a.m., deputies were in the area of Ortega Highway and La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano, when they discovered an injured male down in the roadway.
Deputies found Cesar Amilcar Zuniga Ruiz, a 23-year-old man from Los Angeles, on the ground with severe injuries. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene by the Orange County Fire Authority. Preliminary investigations indicate that Cesar was crossing the road when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver did not remain at the scene of the traffic collision. Through further investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Anthony Konstantine Kalomas, 85, of San Juan Capistrano, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for VC 20001(A), Hit and Run.
