In-Custody Death - April 13, 2023

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, 37-year-old Brian Schaar from Los Angeles, CA who was housed at the Intake Release Center in Module L died at Orange County Global Medical Center, Santa Ana. At the time, Schaar was awaiting trial. At the conclusion of the Orange County District Attorney’s independent investigation, Schaar's manner of death was determined to be natural, and his cause of death was identified as dilated cardiomyopathy. In-Custody Death – March 3, 2023

On March 3, 2023, 33-year-old Ryan Barnette from Garden Grove, CA who was housed at the Intake Release Center in Holding Cell PM9 died at OC Global Medical Center. At the time, Barnette was awaiting arraignment. At the conclusion of the Orange County District Attorney’s independent investigation, Barnette’s manner of death was determined to be accidental, and his cause of death was identified as acute fentanyl intoxication.
